I made this cake for a friend of mine, its a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, custard filling. I just decorated it freestyle. I really don’t like my writing with icing….especially on a small cake like this, I think I need to get a stencil for cursive writing if there is such a thing!
I was searching for dill sauce recipes for salmon and all of them were made with either, yogurt, sour cream or cream cheese…..ok one prob…I never met an Albanian that would eat dairy with fish! Mind you it might just be an old wives tale but I’m sticking to how I was raised, so I made up my own recipe! I just eyed it, so approx you will need for 5 pieces of salmon.
I had so many fresh peaches that mom gave me, from her neighbour who picked them straight from the tree in their backyard! I made jam out of most of them and with the rest I made this cake.
This is a dish I grew up with, a friend of the family who is ethnic Albanian but grew up in Egypt would make this for us, its an Egyptian dish. I would get so excited when she would bring this! When I got older and learned how to cook I asked her for this recipe, and have been making it ever since!
Love grilled veggies, eggplant is great when grilled! Paired with garlic yogurt sauce and you won’t be able to put your fork down! You can use grilled eggplant, roasted or pan fried….all work and taste great! You can have this as a side dish, or as lunch on its own with bread.
The word ajvar comes from the word hayvar Turkish for cavier. Very popular all over the Balkans ajvar is prepared in the fall when red peppers and eggplant are in season. Ajvar is time consuming and takes effort to make, but it is all well worth it.
