Fennel Turkish Style – Zeytinyagli Taze Rezene

Fennel Turkish Style - Zeytinyagli Taze Rezene

This is the only way I have tried fennel and I absolutely love it! Funny too cause I do not like licorice yet I love fennel surprisingly! It tastes and smells just like it! One of my best friends Hatice taught me this dish, its so yummy….especially with plain yogurt on the side. My friend prepares this with stew meat, and it turns out so tender and yummy….I never have such luck so I use ground beef. I usually have cooked ground beef in the fridge to add to dishes like this.

Tomato and Cucumber Salad

Tomato and Cucumber Salad

Tomato and cucumber salad is one of my favourite salads! Its easy to make, and is good for you! My kids love this with fresh bread just like I did when I was a kid…dipping the bread in the juices is the best part! I like to add feta cheese to it as well sometimes. It makes for a great side dish or on its own for lunch.

Turlu – Mixed Vegetable Stew

Turlu - Mixed Vegetable Stew

Turlu is a mixed vegetable stew in Albanian and Turkish Cuisine. Meat is added as well, either stew or ground meat and its optional you may make it vegetarian if you like.

Rice is served on the side along with yogurt for those who like it, my children do! Its a healthy stew filled with a variety of veggies, tasty too!

There is no real measurements for this recipe, when I go to the grocery store I just grab the fresh green beans and okra, so I checked my receipt to give you an idea of how much you need, and the green beans came to 0.365 kg and the okra came to 0.425 kg so both don’t even come to a full lb!

Refrigerator Dill Pickles

Refrigerator Dill Pickles

Who doesn’t like a crunchy dill pickle? I love them! Problem is some jar labels can be deceiving! I hate when that happens…you open a jar of pickles and they turn out soggy and flimsy! Crispy and crunchy is what I want…so you know the saying when you want something done do it yourself! I took those words and ran with it to the kitchen and made my own pickles!

Potatoes with Herb Garlic Sauce

Potatoes with Herb Garlic Sauce

Its a 100 degrees outside and I am craving scalloped potatoes! What is a girl to do? Turn the oven on and actually bake in this heat….well I did turn the oven on a few days ago to make pizza…yes I was crazy that day! The problem is my house! Its hot in here even with the A/C on, cooking in my kitchen is like cooking in a sauna!

Since I was barbecuing the steaks I needed an easy side dish, I had made beans in the crock pot cause that is what my kids like…but I like potatoes with my meat! I had red skin organic potatoes that I put to boil and thought I would just eat it with some butter and salt as I like potatoes like that.

Rigatoni with Beets

Rigatoni with Beets

I was out in my backyard this morning when I noticed some of the beets were coming out from the ground, they looked small but if I didn’t pull them out I am sure something would get to it before I did…so I pulled out 3 bunches of beets!

I just love beets, when I was pregnant with my son one of my cravings was pickled beets!

The great thing with beets is that not only is the bulb edible but all of it is! The stems, leaves are edible and delicious! Its the perfect veggie that goes a long way….you can even use the liquid from the beets after boiling….haven’t decided yet what will become of that….I will keep you posted….stay tuned!
