Mediterranean Cuisine
What is Mediterranean cuisine? It is the foods from 20 countries around the Mediterranean. It consist of fresh fruits and vegetables, and healthy ways of cooking food. Olive oil and garlic are essential ingredients in Mediterranean cuisine.
Onions, tomatoes, and garlic, begin many of the Mediterranean dishes.
Eggplant, squashes, peppers, rapini, dandelion,cucumbers, artichokes, okra, zucchini, cabbage, green beans and a variety of greens and lettuces are many of the vegetables used in the Mediterranean cuisine.
Legumes like lentils, chickpeas, fava beans , green beans, white navy beans are commonly used as well.
Fresh herbs that are widely used include rosemary, basil, parsley, mint, dill, fennel, and oregano.
As for the desserts they are rich and sweet, and made on special occasions, even cakes use olive oil as a ingredient. Baklava is a very common dessert and probably most famous around the world, made from filo, nuts and syrup…it is delectable.
