M&M Chocolate Chip Cookies

Thursday, March 1st, 2012 | 6 Comments

One thing you must know about me is that I LOVE M&Ms!! Since I was a kid they have been my favourite candy! I am trying to avoid unhealthy foods and food colouring is one of them, but this is my weakness! I can’t help myself, I just have to have them!  One of my favourite treats is chocolate chips cookies….so I decided to combine my two favourite things!

Now I know I am not the first to come up with it…but the recipe for this chocolate chip cookie has been a secret till now! I started to make this cookie when I was 15 and yes you may have notice that I say that often…that is because that is the age when my mom stopped kicking me out of the kitchen, and let me bake on my own:)

I did however change some things as this past year I have stopped using margarine, and I am limiting my usage of shortening to recipes that I think really need it! Those 2 ingredients and butter were in the original recipe, I now only use butter. It changed the texture of the cookie a bit but its still yummy, you can use shortening if you like!:)

What you will need:

  • 2 cups all purpose ‘unbleached’ white flour
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1  cup softened unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup mini semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup M&Ms

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375.

Combine flour, baking soda and salt, set aside.

In mixer beat butter and sugar till light and creamy, takes about 2-3 minutes. Add 1 egg at a time.

Add the flour mixture slowly mix in. Fold in the chocolate chips and M&M’s.

Scoop 1 tbsp full of cookie dough place 1 inch apart on a parchment lined baking sheet, bake for 10 mins  or till golden brown on edges. Cool for 1 minute in pan, remove and cool for another 5 minutes on cooling rack. Enjoy!:)

Green m&m my fav! Which is yours?

Where are all the red M&M’s?

I made this batch with a mixture of shortening and butter, you can tell the difference in the colour and texture compared to the other cookies.

Finally I found a red m&m!

M&M cookie bars, spoon the dough into a pan, I used my cast iron pan and flatten out, bake for 10-12 mins. Cut into squares or wedges. they turn out moist and chewy! Check out the left hand corner the crumbs made the yellow m&m look like a smiley face:)
