M&M Chocolate Chip Cookies

One thing you must know about me is that I LOVE M&Ms!! Since I was a kid they have been my favourite candy! I am trying to avoid unhealthy foods and food colouring is one of them, but this is my weakness! I can’t help myself, I just have to have them!  One of my favourite treats is chocolate chips cookies….so I decided to combine my two favourite things!

Now I know I am not the first to come up with it…but the recipe for this chocolate chip cookie has been a secret till now! I started to make this cookie when I was 15 and yes you may have notice that I say that often…that is because that is the age when my mom stopped kicking me out of the kitchen, and let me bake on my own:)

I did however change some things as this past year I have stopped using margarine, and I am limiting my usage of shortening to recipes that I think really need it! Those 2 ingredients and butter were in the original recipe, I now only use butter. It changed the texture of the cookie a bit but its still yummy, you can use shortening if you like!:)

What you will need:

  • 2 cups all purpose ‘unbleached’ white flour
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1  cup softened unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup mini semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup M&Ms

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375.

Combine flour, baking soda and salt, set aside.

In mixer beat butter and sugar till light and creamy, takes about 2-3 minutes. Add 1 egg at a time.

Add the flour mixture slowly mix in. Fold in the chocolate chips and M&M’s.

Scoop 1 tbsp full of cookie dough place 1 inch apart on a parchment lined baking sheet, bake for 10 mins  or till golden brown on edges. Cool for 1 minute in pan, remove and cool for another 5 minutes on cooling rack. Enjoy!:)

Green m&m my fav! Which is yours?

Where are all the red M&M’s?

I made this batch with a mixture of shortening and butter, you can tell the difference in the colour and texture compared to the other cookies.

Finally I found a red m&m!

M&M cookie bars, spoon the dough into a pan, I used my cast iron pan and flatten out, bake for 10-12 mins. Cut into squares or wedges. they turn out moist and chewy! Check out the left hand corner the crumbs made the yellow m&m look like a smiley face:)

    Mmmmmm these sound really good
My favorite color hmmm I don't have one lol but the colors reminds me of the movie "the wedding planner' when he tells her that brown has the least food colorings and so from that day on she tosses all the other colors and eats only brown :)

Quick question, when u put butter and shortening mixture does it still equal to 1cup?
I've tried pretty much all your cookie recipes, might as well make these too! :)

    • Haha! Your so cute Aaishah, you will love these! Yes it should measure to one cup, so you can do half and half or just use a 1/4 cup shortening and 3/4 butter, what ever you desire! :)

  4. Love the yellow SMILEY face, your recipe sounds so good & I have everything that recipe calls for. Good thing I even have shortening, gotta try this ASAP before my kids finish mini m & m’s or I might finish them myself, LOL. Thanks for sharing.
